About Us
BNMF is an annual celebration of new and contemporary music that usually takes place over a week during March. It was formed, in 2000, by a committee of dedicated volunteers in close co-operation with Bangor University's School of Music.
The primary objectives of the Festival are:
- to provide the public with the opportunity to experience and learn about contemporary music
- to commission and/or perform new works from composers of varied nationalities
- to allow school pupils, students and members of the general public to compose and perform new music
- Every year, the Festival endeavours to present the latest trends and developments in contemporary composition, with a particular emphasis on chamber music, mixed-media events, electroacoustic music and experimental music. New or recent works from artists of international standing are performed, where possible, in the presence of the composer.
The Festival also keeps the concept of education at the forefront of its activities, maintaining close contact with local schools and colleges and connecting each concert with an educational project(s). These can take the form of performance and composition workshops, public discussions with featured composers, and community events - usually all taking place at convenient locations within the city of Bangor.
I hope to enjoy your company during part, if not all, of this year's events.
